Hook Line & Drag II

Posted by Shiva (Kajang, Malaysia) on 15 February 2007 in Lifestyle & Culture and Portfolio.

Looks painful, feels painful.. but he still goes on.. all the way up into the caves! The hooks are made from stainless steel and is pretty sharp when stuck into the body.

Hi guys!, After contemplating for so long, I have finally decided to put out my images for sale in my own photo sales site. Please visit http://www.e-ttl.com to view the site and if you see anything you like, let me know. This is a " Truly Malaysian" site that sells images from Malaysia.

So, I officially pronounce my site open for sales!! Thousands of thanks to aminus3 members and web owners to be a good friend and a true compatriot in photography to all budding photographers to be able to display their works in a blog format for free. I truly salute the aminus3 team for being very kind and humane to all of us. I wish you all the greatest of success.

Yikes! What is he pulling?!

15 Feb 2007 5:32am

@Daniel: He is pulling a group of 2 to 3 people who on the otherside of the hooks. The people on the otherside are pulling him towards them. So he is basically going against the resistance of the pullers.

Francis from Hong Kong

Wow. A truely gruesome shot. The tension on the stretched skin really lets you imagine the pain. Nice capture.

YIKES!!!!!!!!!!
A little different than the American pain rituals of professional football, 24 packs of beer, random shooting, working in open space offices and television....pain nonetheless. Excellent shot however, all physical qualms aside.

@Sylvia: Craig.. Sylvia.. see that hook? let me tell you,it has the same sharpness of a fish hook. ::)

Pain is not an excuse for kavadi bearers.. they want it.. but they wont feel it. I am waiting for the fire walking ritual this june.. gotta capture that .. very stunty and extremely dangerous.

Jen from Jessup, United States

Ouch!!! and Double Ouch!

Hey,Shiva, did that bearer really realize the PAIN ? or he had been protected by God from the pain?or it was the power of mind that was at work? Can you tell me how this all works, because I am really curious about it after looking at your awesome thought-provoking image I have seen so many times in Malaysia, thanks Shiva !!! Cheers =)

@Kheoh Yee Wei: Well, before any devotees can go on taking this kind of penance for their prayers, they have to fast for 44 days on a complete vegetarian diet, which consists of lots of fruits, milk and very less solid food. In my humble opinion, if you ask me, anyone here can do it. It is more about the state of mind and how driven the person are. The divine intervention of god? perhaps, the will power of a person is part and parcel of god and with it, anything is possible. It very much depends on how the person defines it.

But, still, I think it is all devotion and love towards god.
